Cabinet of Curiosity

Recommendations:
Sweet Mother's Kitchen. I'm a recent convert to Sweet Mother's Kitchen, which I had avoided up until a couple of months ago, assuming that it would be a total wankfest. Turns out to be one of the very few awesome things about Courtenay Place.

The Big Day Out. While I don't give a fuck in particular about Neil Young, here are four reasons why everyone complaining about next year's line-up is full of shit: 1) Simian Mobile Disco 2) Cut Copy 3) Hot Chip 4) Prodigy. Have a wee bit of a dance, why don't you?

No Love Lost. Party at Valve next Saturday. (Onwards, to Myspace).

Currently obsessed with:
1) Digitalism
2) Heroes
3) Monk's Blend tea
4) Kirkaldie and Stains' cheese section (!!!)

(i always thought Beck was an artfag but apparently he's actually white trash)

#1 Priority

Melbourne, January 2009.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds are playing two nights before Atmosphere who have a gig two nights before Digitalism.

6th, 8th, 10th.

YES.

Currently reading: The Tao of Physics by Fritjof Kapra
Listening to: (in my head) M.I.A - Hombre
Drinking: Tea
Being: Awesome

Better Work Stories

Attila Csihar
08/05/07 at the Toff in Town, Melbourne
(from Verminyl's photostream)

The night before Sunn O))) and Boris. One of the most amazing shows I've ever been to and it has been released for your aural and anal pleasure: Pentemple - O))) Presents...

Must. Possess. Item.

See also: Finally hearing the Gossip and wondering what the fuck all the fuss was about. The bad sort of disco. Discoflatulance.

See also also: Finally listening to CSS and wondering whythefuck I didn't go to their gig last year. The good sort of disco. Discopartyrock.

Stereo Total. Must investigate.
'I love you, Ono'.

Tomorrow night at the Bath House, even. With JD Samson.

Oui oui oui.

...and then there's PEACHES late next month.
Dirty.

There had better be tickets left on Tuesday.

*FISTICUFFS*

Guy standing in the middle of the road outside work playing the theme from Star Wars on the trumpet at 12.46am? Why yes, run-on sentence. Yes, indeed.

What is it with the 80s and being back with a vengence?

Lucidity

Her Wish I by Alyz

Billie Holiday - Riffin' the Scotch.

Riffin' the Scotch.

She was rock n roll as.

I love Billie Holiday. Sunday morning with tea. Shaking my head slowly from side to side to feel my hair drape to and fro around and across my face. Should I go into town for breakfast, or stay in?

Dimanche vingt juillet deux-mille huit
Midi (et demi?):
Aro Cafe. They're playing Nick Cave's new album. I forgot to buy a newspaper, but there's a shop copy at my table. Last night was awesome and I've got an open day ahead of me. Late-breakfast on a day off after having a fucking sweet night. Soy mocha bowl and a muffin. Cafe-peeps that ask if you want more coffee as they're clearing away your first one. Today gets my seal of approval.

Trois heures dix l'apres-midi:
And after breakfast I skipped across the road, and rented the entire Blue Planet series - for a discount and a few extra days and when I walked in they were playing Dark Side of the Moon, thanks for making a sweet day even sweeter, friendly neighbourhood movie-pimps - then wandered home and made pancakes (with brown sugar instead of white, and a little vanilla essence; I refrigerated the batter for a half hour or so to make 'em extra fluffy; + maple syrup + bananas on top = goddamn).

See also: A pot of china rose tea, incense, thigh-high black and silver glitter socks, warm black leggings, multiple layers of cardigans, not needing a coat outside.

Lucy, 27, punk singer, London | Govt does figures on student grant for all | Secret shame #1: About Town. What is Bridget Saunders on about?! I can't look away. | Secret shame #2: ONTD. For example: Courtney Love says Ryan Adams stole Frances Bean's trust fund | The nine year itch - "Just what are National voters signing up for?" | Brown sets out plan for UK pull-out from Iraq | Capitalism Bad; Tree Pretty - Victim blaming | Frogblog: Get ready for the last oil war

Dead Can Dance - Enigma of the Absolute.
You wouldn't believe how much I love this song, unless you've heard it.

Thursday

Last night I flew solo at Valve for a gig that involved:

Grey Daturas
Birchville Cat Motel
1/3 Octave Band and
100 Suns

I remembered that it was on a couple of hours before doors opened.

It was fucking great.
Drank snakebite, sat on the floor, chilled out.

Experimental electronoisemetal is one of my favourite flavours.

Last Week

"Today has been a success.

Aunty Mena's chow mee for dinner.
Mmmmmmm.

Listening to the Chemical Brothers.
Dig Your Own Hole.

Reading some news.
And Hunter S. Thompson.
Happy Birthday, Jack Nicholson.

Looking up every now and then to watch the riff-raff coming and going outside on the street.

A handful of visitors and wellwishers and now I'm going home to pass out..."

Uber

The Buzzcocks are cool.

Yesterday was cool. I had delicious coffee and ate a lot of cafe food, bounced from place to place running errands, started a loose-leaf tea collection and bought a bright red teapot and baby pink egyptian cotton sheets.

Secret report: Biofuel cause food crisis - "Biofuels have forced global food prices up by 75% - far more than previously estimated - according to a confidential World Bank report obtained by the Guardian." | Mental health discrimination comes from all sources - report | World leaders vague on climate change goals (also - Groundbreaking lawsuit accuses big oil of conspiracy to deceive public about climate change) | Police bring in evening curfew to keep town's under-16s off streets. A little bit too far along the 2 + 2 = 5 continuum, no?

Today I've been getting off on Alien Sex Fiend. Had breakfast-coffee in Midnight and afternoon-coffee from Midnight. Obsessive. Also: Finishing work at three, silver bangles and new tights. Dinner was portobello fajitas, 'cept I swapped the salsa for sliced tomatoes, guacamole for strips of avocado and added hummus and some baby spinach leaves as well. Mmmm.

I have an alarm clock.
It is set for 7.30am.

Two songs:
Daft Punk - Robot Rock (live album version)
Weathermen - 5 Left In The Clip (RJD2 mix)

Stupidest Rebellion Ever

Last night: Tea and brownies down the road. Ten Deadliest Sharks on Animal Planet. Comfy couch, lazy conversation.

Today: Woke up wide-awake, for some reason, just past six am. Got out of bed around seven, made breakfast, danced around my bedroom listening to Be Your Own Pet, who one of the guys at work got me on to yesterday (also: K-OS - Atlantis: Hymns For Disco), and who are fucking mean by the way. Took quite-awhile getting ready, walked into town listening to Various Artists, including The Kelly Affair, Thresher's Flail, Love Your Shotgun, Adventure and Bog by the aforementioned fucking mean band.

So good I'm probably going to actually spend money on their music (!). Bog is the most fun song I've heard in ages.

Also today: Checked eight out of ten things off of my To-Do-Thursday-Yes?-Yes list.

Foodstuff of the day: Wholegrain toast with sundried tomato and garlic hummus, sliced tomato, salt and cracked pepper.

Dessert: Vanilla custard mixed through sliced peaches with a couple of pieces of dark dark dark chocolate. And tea.

Well, the world is going to hell in a handbasket but my life is getting better every day.

The Fly lands on Paris stage as a Cronenberg opera - "With a score written by Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore, an orchestra conducted by tenor Plácido Domingo, and Cronenberg himself directing, La Mouche is the brainchild of three creative greats." | 'The pleasure of life grows' - David Lynch on transcendental meditation | Thursday 17th July - The Grey Daturas, Birchville Cat Motel, 1/3 Octave Band and 100 Suns (!) at Valve. Doors at 8pm.
